CS Lewis said in his book, Mere Christianity,

“A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.”

How does it make you feel when someone stereotypes you?

Does it not bother you that we live in such a polarized world that it seems that we can no longer communicate with people without being stereotyped or without stereotyping them?

We stereotype races…
We stereotype the rich…
We stereotype the poor…
We stereotype people from the north…
We stereotype people from the south…
We stereotype people from different countries…
We stereotype politics…
If you’re a republican, there’s a stereotype.
If you’re a democrat, there’s a stereotype.
If you’re a libertarian, tea party, independent, there’s a stereotype.
We stereotype churches… and those who attend them.

When are we going to start seeing people the way Jesus sees them?
When are we going to start loving people the way Jesus loves them?
How does the Gospel play into this issue of stereotyping?

In Mark 2:13-17, the Pharisees and the scribes were caught stereotyping Jesus. Tomorrow, we are going to look at how He responded and what we can learn from His response.
