No one is immune… no one can avoid them. Jesus promised us they would come, so what can we do when they knock on our door? I’m talking about tough times.
C.S. Lewis once said,
“He wants them to learn to walk and must therefore take away His hand.”
God never promised us that He would give us everything we want. We all know what that would do to us. In fact, what do you call a child who gets EVERYTHING he or she wants… when he or she wants it? Remember Veruca from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Remember when she was singing “I want a party with roomfuls of laughter, / Ten thousand tons of ice cream, / And if I don’t get the things I am after, / I’m going to screeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEAM.” Well, we all know what happened to her. God is not our cosmic genie in the sky. He never promised us that He would give us everything we want. He promised us that He would be ALL that we NEED. There is a huge difference. It’s a game changer… a shift in perspective.
